TANSEED 8.0 – Tamil Nadu Seed Fund StartupTN – Government of Tamil Nadu (Department of MSME/IndustriesTANSEED 8.0 is the eighth iteration of Tamil Nadu’s flagship seed funding program, designed to kickstart the growth of promising early-stage startups across diverse sectors. Launched by StartupTN (the official startup promotion entity of Tamil Nadu Government), this initiative provides direct seed investment capital to entrepreneurs with innovative ideas and viable business models ready to scale.

Program Objective:
TANSEED 8.0 aims to democratize startup funding by providing accessible, equitable seed capital to startups across different backgrounds and sectors. The program particularly encourages applications from underrepresented founder segments including women entrepreneurs, rural startup innovators, and green technology pioneers.

Two Investment Tiers:

Tier 1: Special Focus Sectors (₹15 Lakh)

Green Tech Startups – Environmental, renewable energy, clean technology solutions
Rural Impact Startups – Solutions addressing rural challenges, agricultural innovation, rural entrepreneurship
Women-led Startups – Companies founded or co-founded by women entrepreneurs
Enhanced funding to accelerate innovation in these strategic priority areas

Tier 2: Other Sector Startups (₹10 Lakh)

General startups across all sectors (excluding fintech, which has separate programs)
Technology, manufacturing, services, consumer, B2B, B2C ventures
Flexible application for diverse business models

Strategic Support Beyond Capital:
Selected startups gain access to StartupTN’s extensive ecosystem, including:

Mentorship network from experienced entrepreneurs and industry experts
Investor connections for follow-on funding rounds
Networking opportunities through startup community events
Government support services including compliance, regulatory guidance
Market access through Tamil Nadu government procurement opportunities
Visibility at state-level startup showcases and pitch events

Investment Structure:
TANSEED provides seed capital in exchange for a 3% support stake in the company. This aligns investor and founder interests while maintaining founder control and allowing significant growth potential.

Government Backing:
As a Government of Tamil Nadu initiative, TANSEED positions funded startups for priority consideration in government tenders, subsidies, and business opportunities within the state ecosystem.

Eligibility

Startup Registration – Must be registered as a company/partnership under applicable Indian laws

Business Model – Must have a viable, revenue-generating or revenue-ready business model

Stage – Can be at early-stage (idea to early revenue) with clear commercialization path

Location – Preferably based in Tamil Nadu or willing to establish operations in TN

Founder Status – Indian citizens with entrepreneurial mindset and domain knowledge

Team Capability – Experienced founding team with technical and/or business expertise

Innovation Factor – Solution should address a real market problem with clear differentiation

Funding History – Preferably first-time seekers or early-stage without significant prior funding

Sector Eligibility – Open to all sectors except fintech (which has dedicated programs)

Growth Potential – Clear roadmap for scaling and achieving profitability

Special Consideration – Women-led, rural-focused, and green-tech startups get enhanced preference

Location Eligibility

Tamil Nadu (Primary) / Pan-India (Considered) – While TANSEED 8.0 primarily targets startups based in Tamil Nadu to strengthen the state's startup ecosystem, strong startups from other Indian states may be considered. Preference given to ventures willing to establish primary operations in Tamil Nadu for access to state support systems and government opportunities.
