  • Travel expenses covered for top 3 finalists to present at Borlaug Dialogue

Purpose & Impact

Unveiled at the 2024 Norman E. Borlaug International Dialogue, this initiative aligns with the World Food Prize Foundation’s 40-year mission to elevate innovations and inspire action toward alleviating global hunger. The Challenge targets startups developing breakthrough technologies that can improve agricultural productivity, sustainability, and resilience—particularly those aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Special Emphasis: Applications from the Global South are particularly encouraged, recognizing the unique challenges and opportunities in emerging agricultural markets.

Startups are evaluated on four key dimensions:

  4. Scalability and Replicability: Ability to expand and adapt across diverse contexts

Competition Timeline Structure

Multi-Stage Selection Process:

  1. Application Phase: January 21 – April 15, 2026

  2. Top 10 Announcement: June 2026 at DialogueNEXT India

  3. Virtual Public Voting: June-July 2026

  4. Top 3 Finalists Announced: August 2026

  5. Final Live Competition: October 21-23, 2026 at Borlaug Dialogue in Des Moines, Iowa

Inaugural Challenge Results

The first Innovate for Impact Challenge attracted nearly 400 applications from 65 countries, demonstrating strong global interest. Winners included:

  • 1st Place: APOLO Biotech (Argentina) – RNA technology for climate-resilient agriculture and pesticide reduction

  • 2nd Place: Vet Konect Ltd (Africa) – AI-powered mobile animal care platform

  • 3rd Place: Capsber Agriscience (India) – AgTech innovation

Eligibility
Entity Type: For-profit startups only in the AgTech space

Stage Requirement: Early-stage development from validated concepts to pre-Series A funding

Founder Commitment: At least one founder must be working full-time on the project
