The IIT Patna Pre-Incubation Program is a government-backed initiative designed to identify and nurture the next wave of innovators and student startups. Launched by the Incubation Centre at IIT Patna in collaboration with multiple partner institutions and the Department of Industries, Government of India, this program provides comprehensive support to entrepreneurs in their earliest stages of venture development.

Program Objective:

This call for proposals specifically invites applications to support ideation, concept development, and early prototyping stages of innovation. The program aims to help innovators and student entrepreneurs transform their ideas into commercially viable products through structured mentorship, financial support, and access to cutting-edge technical infrastructure.

Geographic Reach:

Pre-incubation support is available across multiple extension centres including Gaya College of Engineering (Gaya), Muzaffarpur Institute of Technology (Muzaffarpur), Bhagalpur College of Engineering (Bhagalpur), and Darbhanga College of Engineering (Darbhanga), ensuring startups from across Bihar and neighboring regions can access this opportunity.

Focus Domains:

The program welcomes innovations in key technology sectors including Electronic System Design & Manufacturing (ESDM), Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning (AI/ML & IoT), Medical Technology & Life Science, AgriTech & Sustainability, EV & Clean Technology, and Defense Technology.

Financial & Support Package:

Selected innovators receive grant support up to ₹2 Lakhs to validate their concepts and develop working prototypes. Beyond funding, participants gain access to state-of-the-art labs, equipment, technical expertise from IIT faculty, business mentoring, and pathway opportunities to the full incubation program.

Ideal For:

This program is specifically designed for full-time undergraduate and postgraduate students with entrepreneurial aspirations, though other innovators and entrepreneurs are also welcome. The one-year pre-incubation cycle provides structured support to refine business ideas and determine commercial viability before scaling to full incubation.

Eligibility

Citizenship – Applicant must be a citizen of India

Student Status – Must be full-time Undergraduate (UG) or Postgraduate (PG) student with entrepreneurial pursuits

Development Stage – Working on innovations at ideation, concept development, or early prototyping stage

Location Flexibility – Preference for applicants willing to join on-site at extension centres (Gaya, Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur, Darbhanga), but remote participation also possible

Commitment – Readiness to participate in one-year pre-incubation program with structured mentoring

Innovation Focus – Solution should align with focus areas (ESDM, AI/ML, MedTech, AgriTech, Clean Tech, Defense)

Team Requirement – Can be individual or co-founder team

Not Previously Incubated – Preferably not received formal incubation support elsewhere

Pan-Bihar & Extended Region – While the main incubator is at IIT Patna campus (Patna, Bihar), pre-incubation support is specifically available through four extension centres: Gaya College of Engineering, Gaya Muzaffarpur Institute of Technology, Muzaffarpur Bhagalpur College of Engineering, Bhagalpur Darbhanga College of Engineering, Darbhanga Applicants from these regions are encouraged to apply. Preference given to applicants willing to join on-site, though remote participation is possible.
