Scheme Details In Depth

Accelerate Your Deep-Tech Innovation with the BIRAC-RDI Fund

The BIRAC–RDI Fund is a transformative ₹2,000 Crore financing window under the Government of India’s ₹1 Lakh Crore RDI initiative. Designed to catalyze high-impact deep-tech innovation, this fund provides a massive boost to indigenous manufacturing in biotechnology and related sectors.

What This Grant Offers

This initiative offers patient capital and risk-mitigating support through a co-investment model.

  • Funding Size: Ranging from ₹5 Crore up to ₹200 Crore.

  • Co-Investment: Funding support extends up to 50% of the assessed project cost to crowd in private capital and reduce technological risk.

  • Funding Instruments: Delivered through equity, convertible instruments, and long-term debt.

Purpose and Strategic Impact

Anchored in the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, the BIRAC-RDI Fund focuses on enabling “delta-change” innovations rather than incremental improvements. It prioritizes:

  • Reprogramming Biology: AI-engineered designer enzymes and extreme-condition stable proteins.

  • Foundational Bio-Platforms: Architectures enabling multiple IP families and global standard-setting.

  • Supply-Chain Resilience: Advanced manufacturing that breaks the import dependency trap (e.g., reagents, viral vectors, complex media).

Key Benefits for Applicants:

  • Unprecedented Capital Access: Bridges the critical gap between laboratory research and commercial-scale manufacturing.

  • Long-Term Growth Partner: Built to support long-gestation, high-risk research requiring patient capital.

  • National Recognition: Establishes your entity as a key driver of India’s $300 billion bioeconomy target by 2030.

If your deep-tech project is ready for scale-up, clinical validation, or industrial manufacturing, the BIRAC-RDI Fund is your ultimate growth catalyst.
